I was born in London, grew up in Trinidad from the age of one years old until I moved to upstate New York to attend Hartwick College. I completed my undergraduate degree a semester early with a major in Business and a double minor in Economics and Finance. I graduated top of my major, with college honors and magna cum laude (3.74 GPA).
In February 2007, I started working at Alliance Bernstein (a global asset management firm). I learnt about diverse financial asset classes and managed a ~$50MM portfolio. The work environment was fast-paced with various intra-day deadlines. I was promoted to Team Leader and managed six junior associates. After one year, I was able to develop an extremely productive team with 90% improved productivity. I was a key member in various projects to improve efficiency and accuracy of our work stream. I was the department lead for a gifting software developed internally which led to 80% reduction in errors. Additionally I spearheaded an account automation project which led to 75% increased accuracy in portfolio account trading. This was the beginning of my product management journey, although at the time I had no idea what product management was.
In 2010, I studied diligently for the GMAT and achieved a score of 730 which placed me in the top 96th percentile in both Verbal and Math. I attended NYU Stern for my MBA and graduated with a dual specialization in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. While at NYU I did a myriad of strategic projects for various companies. This sharpened my public speaking and presentation skills.
In 2013, prior to completing my MBA, I launched my own e-commerce apparel and accessories business. After many months of primary and secondary research coupled with finding vendors to create goods and build a website, Beach Glam was created. I was involved in Product Management and Marketing Strategy of the business. My top 3 most notable achievements are:
1) Creating wireframes with no previous website-building experience, working with Developers and UX Designers and testing a responsive website which I had envisioned months prior. The goods for sale were all sourced or designed by me and I launched beachglam.com with 60 SKUs. The average pages viewed per visit is 4.6 with a 10% bounce rate.
2) Reducing customer acquisition costs by 33% (from $30 per customer to $20 per customer) after applying data-driven SEO and SEM analysis, Google Analytics, Social Media analytics, and A/B testing. Additionally, I was able to increase my annual lead volume by 400% after following a CRM strategy that I created.
3) Increasing annual profit to 125% each year after I followed an Omnichannel Communications Strategy I created, which focused on my key markets of Florida, Texas, New York, California, Puerto Rico, Toronto, England, and Australia.
After 7 years of management, Beach Glam was sold in February 2020 and I knew that I wanted to return to the finance industry but I loved working with software developers and optimizing the user experience. Hence, post-Beach Glam in 2021, I attained various certificates: Fintech certificate from Harvard Business School and Product Management certificate via Product School.
This led me to my current role- since 2021- as Head of Product Management at Diamond Standard (a fintech company tokenizing diamonds on the blockchain). Diamond Standard has offered the opportunity to work on an innovative financial product based on the blockchain. With multiple use cases stemming from smart diamond commodities, such as payments and remittances which can be used in various instances from P2P to Gambling. I have had great exposure in multiple industries, hence diversifying my knowledge of digital payments, stable coins, and cryptocurrency. As the only woman on the executive team, I am able to offer diverse perspectives while also being able to maintain alignment of business strategy with short and long term goals while focused on sustainable growth.
As the Head of Product Management, I manage a team of 2 product managers (one Senior PM and one Junior PM). In my role, I employ a combination of analytical skills, strategic thinking, product lifecycle management, and problem solving with a user-centric mindset. We utilize various software such as Jira, Notion, Miro, Slack, Zoho and Figma. We build and optimize all front end touchpoints for users (website, emails, and web app) plus build and optimize back end systems (ERP SAAS). We also develop mobile app prototypes and conduct extensive secondary research and analytics to drive development done by software engineers. I work closely with cross-functional departments: Compliance, Marketing, Sales, Operations and Finance.
